Tableau Foundation Training For Your Team​

Attendees will gain a broad understanding of how to explore, analyse and visualise data using Tableau. They will be comfortable using Tableau Desktop to connect to data, build worksheets, create dashboards and publish or share Tableau content.

By the end of the course, attendees will understand Tableau’s visual analysis workflow and will be able to build useful, well-designed dashboards from public datasets.

Audience:

Anybody who is getting started analysing data or building interactive dashboards with Tableau.

This course is suitable for new Tableau users.

Prerequisite:

None. However, previous experience with Excel, Power BI or another reporting tool is useful but not required.

Duration:

This is a 2-day Tableau Foundation Course. Alternatively, 1-day condensed foundation course can be delivered, if required.  The course starts at 09:30 and runs until 16:30.
Alternate timings can be arranged upon request. The course can be held on a date that suits you.

Location:

Our Tableau Foundation Course course course can be delivered virtually using online training platforms such as MS Teams or Zoom or face-to-face at any preferred location in the UK, Europe or ROW.

Tableau Foundation Course Outline

Connecting to Data & Understanding Data Sources

Connect to data from text/CSV files and spreadsheets
Understand Tableau’s data source page, including fields, data types, dimensions and measures

Data Preparation & Transformation

Prepare data for analysis: rename fields, change data types, split fields, hide unused fields
Create groups, use aliases, and handle common data quality issues

Data Modelling & Combining Data

Combine data using Tableau relationships, joins and unions
Understand the difference between live connections and extracts

Creating Visualisations in Tableau

Build visualisations such as bar charts, line charts, scatter plots, highlight tables, text tables and maps
Use Tableau shelves and cards (Rows, Columns, Marks, Filters, Pages, Colour, Size, Label, Detail, Tooltip)
Sort, filter and group data
Use hierarchies and drill-down to explore data

 

Dashboard Design & Interactivity

Create interactive dashboards from multiple worksheets
Filter dashboards using filter cards and dashboard actions
Improve and polish dashboards: titles, axes, colours, labels, tooltips, text, and images
Use parameters for flexible, user-driven analysis

Advanced Analysis & Sharing Insights

Create calculated fields for business calculations
Use date calculations and aggregations
Apply table calculations (running totals, percentages, rankings)
Introduction to Level of Detail (LOD) expressions
Publish and share content using Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server
